Emporia State University has some special guests on campus now.
The Higher Learning Commission has a site visit team at ESU on Monday and Tuesday. On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Office of Institutional Effectiveness Coordinator Brian Denton said team members have several things they look at during these kinds of visits.
This is part of a “Standard Pathways” evaluation as the university’s accreditation cycle gets closer to the midway point, and Denton says this is a change in philosophy for the HLC, which took accreditation visits to colleges and universities every decade until recently. In fact, Emporia State is a test case for having these smaller-scope visits in between more widespread renewal efforts.
The HLC, the most widely-recognized accreditation body in the country, has accredited ESU continually since 1915 and last visited Emporia State three years ago. The next full accreditation effort for ESU will be in the 2024-25 academic year.
