Osage County government is now in the market for a lead prosecutor after Brandon Jones recently announced his resignation.
Besides resigning from Osage County, Jones is also finishing out his current term as Anderson County Attorney because that case load is lower than what he currently has in Osage County. In addition, he’s transitioning from his childhood home to his adult home.
Jones says the next county attorney will face a unique set of legal issues for a mainly rural county, with major highways like Interstate 35 and the Kansas Turnpike, Melvern and Pomona lakes and close proximity to Topeka, Ottawa and Emporia providing a different mix of crimes than other rural counties might deal with.
Osage County is seeking applications through Nov. 2 to fill the rest of Jones’ term, with the goal of filling the position by Dec. 1 through an election of Osage County Republican precinct committee members.
