After months of preparation and fundraising, Honor Flight is underway for USD 252 Southern Lyon County.
Among the veterans on the trip is Larry DeDonder. He was a tank platoon leader in the Army during the Vietnam War, although he didn’t actually serve overseas because of an emergency medical situation for his father back at home. This is a role reversal for DeDonder, who went to Washington as part of a Reading High School trip as a teenager. At the time, his principal was a Navy veteran.
Superintendent Mike Argabright says there are a host of benefits for the students involved.
This is the fifth Honor Flight trip for the district and involves 24 veterans, 22 students and 10 support staff. The contingent comes back late Tuesday after seeing a host of memorials and sightseeing hubs in and around Washington.
