A month after flooding rain began and led to damaged roads in and around Lyon County, Assistant County Engineer Jim Brull is asking drivers for patience as the repairs continue.
Over 40 roads and intersections were flooded just in Lyon County after 10-16 inches of rainfall from Oct. 3-9 along with more rainfall through mid-month.
Initial damage estimates were around $100,000, which put Lyon County on the cusp of federal reimbursement help through the Federal Emergency Management Agency — provided the state met its damage threshold of around $4 million. After ongoing assessments, Brull says the damage wasn’t as bad as first feared so reimbursement is not looking like an option for the county.
Echoing a prior statement from County Engineer Chip Woods, Brull says it could take until early next year to bring all the damaged county roads up to standard — and that’s if we have no other flooding issues to delay the current work.
