Rescue workers extricated one driver involved in an injury crash west of Emporia on Monday morning.
Lyon County Deputy Jody Meyers says deputies, Highway Patrol troopers and Emporia-Lyon County EMS crews went to the 300 block of US Highway 50, or just east of Road C, around 7:15 am. They found a two-vehicle crash after a car driven by Cody Maloney and a pickup truck driven by Jonathon Dahlke of Orion, Mich., collided.
Dahlke, who was westbound, apparently crossed the center line for currently unknown reasons and hit Maloney’s car in the front driver’s corner.
Maloney had to be extricated by rescue workers before he was taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and treatment. Dahlke originally declined transport but later went to Newman Regional Health by private vehicle.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. They were the only people in their respective vehicles.
Deputies continue their investigation.
