Turnout has been “brisk” as all the early processes for the general midterm election come to an end.
After 160 residents cast their votes Monday morning and almost 350 did so Friday, nearly 2,400 people have cast their ballots in Lyon County. That does not include mail ballots.
The current statewide projection is close to 50 percent voter turnout by the time the election formally ends Tuesday night. On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Monday, Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat said this particular election is on the minds of many.
Lyon County unveiled new touch-screen voting machines for the primary election in August, and Vopat says the new machines have done well so far. Vopat also said Election Office workers were very pleased with the county’s first-ever off-site voting event at Flinthills Mall last month — so much so that Vopat says there will be a similar event for upcoming elections as well.
Vopat says there are no changes in polling places when compared to recent elections. That information is online at www.lyoncounty.org, and we have a link to the Lyon County Election Office voter information online with our story at KVOE.com.
Polling places across the state will be open from 7 am to 7 pm Tuesday, and Vopat says you need a valid photo ID to vote. KVOE News will have complete election coverage as soon as the polls close.
