Camp Wood has a new leader.
The YMCA camp near Elmdale has chosen B.J. Murray, its current operations director, as its next chief executive officer.
Murray has 18 years of YMCA camp experience, including the past three years as operations director, according to board chair Dallas Rakestraw. He has worked at YMCA camps in Iowa, Missouri and Kentucky before coming to Kansas. Camp Wood says summer camp numbers jumped by more than 30 percent and camper retention increased by 14 percent over the last three years.
Murray will succeed Ken Wold, who is retiring on New Year’s Eve after leading the camp the last 22 years. Murray will also spearhead a series of major initiatives, including Camp Wood’s third capital campaign — The Next Century Campaign — as well as the annual fund drive, Kids to Camp Drive and 2019 summer camp recruitment and registration.
Camp Wood was founded in 1915 and has operated continuously since then. For more information about the camp, call 620-273-8641 or go online to www.campwood.org.
