Five head of cattle died when a truck crashed in Coffey County early Thursday morning.
The Coffey County Sheriff’s Office says a semi was northbound on Interstate 35 when it crashed at the Lebo exit around 6:15 am. Most of the cattle survived, but five were killed. There is no word on whether any were injured. The truck driver was not hurt.
Coffey County Dispatch says the crash was not weather-related.
Northbound traffic was at least partially blocked for nearly six hours during the cleanup and investigation processes.
Separately, two people were hurt in a crash in Osage County, also Thursday morning.
Osage County deputies say a vehicle crashed and rolled on US Highway 56 near South Adams Street, or between Scranton and Santa Fe Trail High School. Both the driver and a passenger, currently unnamed, were taken to a Topeka hospital for care and treatment.
As was the case in the Coffey County crash, weather was not a factor in the wreck near Scranton.
