One woman is awaiting word on formal charges after she allegedly misrepresented her identity in an effort to gain access to prescription drugs.
The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office says the woman came into the department’s lobby last Thursday to report her house was burglarized and her prescription medications were stolen. As she was filling out a paper statement, she was allegedly overheard calling a hospital, representing herself as a Greenwood County deputy and verifying the theft so she could authorize a refill.
The woman, later identified as Amy Hamilton, age and hometown not immediately available, was then arrested on suspicion of impersonating a deputy and trying to obtain a controlled substance by fraudulent means.
Hamilton’s legal issues may not stop there. Deputies say they found hidden pills on her as they booked her into the Greenwood County Jail. Deputies have added a potential charge of trafficking contraband into a correctional facility. Again, formal charges are pending.
