The Emporia chiropractor accused of sexually assaulting several women over the past three years, including a teenager, was bound over for trial during a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
Officially, Eric Hawkins was bound over on single counts of rape by medical deception and aggravated sexual battery. He has a pretrial hearing Dec. 21.
Hawkins was originally charged with aggravated sexual battery in late August after a complaint to the Kansas Board of Healing Arts led the board to suspend Hawkins’ license. A separate count of rape was added in September.
Hawkins had requested a modification of his bond on two different occasions, in part so he could take a job in Texas. Both requests were denied, although Judge Doug Jones allowed a modification so Hawkins could visit with defense counsel in Topeka or Lawrence.
