Thursday capped off a three-day informational event for seniors at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
From Tuesday until Thursday, seniors had the opportunity to sit down with Senior Health Insurance Counselors of Kansas (SHICK) to discuss their current Medicare plans. The three-day event was a partnership between the Area Agency on Aging, Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services and the Lyon County Aging Services Department.
Senior Opportunities and Community Services Supervisor for the North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging Karen Mayse says the job of a SHICK counsellor is to help wade through what can be a very confusing, and at times misleading mountain of information.
Appointments were steady as seniors sought clarification on their policies and plans ahead of the Dec. 7 enrollment deadline. Mayse says it is vital to ensure you are enrolled before that time to avoid any penalties or fees.
If you were unable to attend the informational event, you may still schedule an appointment with a SHICK counselor by contacting the Lyon County Department on Aging. Those appointments can be set up by calling Joilene Sandoval at 340-8258 or by emailing Jsandoval@lyoncounty.org.
