Newman scored 21 points off of 20 Emporia State turnovers and it was to much for the Hornets to overcome in a 68-58 loss Saturday.
The Hornets also suffered a cold shooting day hitting only 32 percent of their shots. They were 2-19 behind the 3 point line. The Hornets trailed 37-28 at halftime. They would cut the deficit to 46-44 with over 11 minutes to play but that’s as close as they would get. Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said they failed to handle the press.
Kooper Glick was the leading scorer for the Hornets with 17 points. Justin Washington added 16 points. Aaron McGee was the leading rebounder with 10. Newman was led by Marshawn Blackmon with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Emporia State is now 1-2 for the season. They will host St. Mary Monday night with tipoff at 7pm at White Auditorium.
