There has been a lot of progress at the North Lyon County Veterans Memorial in Bushong. However, a recent incident has put a damper on the fundraising.
Organizer and spokesperson Dianne Bedner-Smith had a construction update recently on KVOE’s Morning Show.
More recently, organizers have raised enough money to install one of three stones honoring soldiers killed in action. Another $7,000 is needed to pay for the other stones, and several other markers are planned before the memorial is completed. Close to $30,000 is needed to install those markers.
Unfortunately, the fundraising effort hit a snag Veterans Day. Two bank bags with at least $1,400 for the memorial inside have been missing since then as well as tickets and an additional $200 for a pontoon ride after a special Veterans Day lunch and fundraiser. Further details about the disappearance are pending. Lyon County deputies are investigating, so call 342-5545 with information.
