A new agreement approved by City Commissioners will lend assistance to a multi-million dollar project in downtown Emporia.
Commissioners unanimously approved a development and incentive compliance agreement which will provide incentives and assistance to the redevelopment and development project announced In July by Emporia Main Street and Haag Management. The $6.5 million project will see the development of the new Preston Plaza and Lofts and the redevelopment of the former Bank of America Building into the Citizen’s National Plaza and Lofts in the 10 block of West Sixth.
Commissioner Rob Gilligan explains what the development and incentive compliance agreement entails.
The Citizen’s National Plaza and Lofts will contain two or three commercial suites on the ground floor along with 20 loft-style apartments. The Preston Plaza and Lofts building will be very similar also containing two commercial suites and 20 loft-style apartments.
Both will be mixed-use buildings for both residential and commercial use, which Gilligan says offers a variety of benefits to downtown Emporia.
The projects are scheduled to begin in 2019 and are estimated to be completed by Summer 2020.
In other business, Mayor Danny Giefer signed a proclamation from the Newman Regional Health Foundation proclaiming November 27th as “Giving Tuesday” in Emporia. Commissioners also declined a proposal for the sale of Walnut Park located at 814 Walnut Street and approved the resolution and agreement for the KPERS 457 plan.
No executive sessions took place, the Commission’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 28 in Conference Room 1 AB inside White Auditorium.
