Five players scored in double figures as the Emporia State men’s basketball team handled St. Mary 119-64 Monday night.
The Hornets led 13-11 early in the first half but used a 13-2 run to expand the lead to 13 points. The Hornets never led by less than 9 points after that, expanding the lead to 51-29 by halftime and cruising in the second half. Head Coach Craig Doty says the Hornets finally had a good game shooting the ball after struggling in losses against Sioux Falls and Newman.
Kooper Glick led the Hornets with 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, including 3-of-4 from the 3-point line. He says the losses against Sioux Falls and Newman were motivating factors in the win.
Hassan Thomas added 19 points, while Sawyer Glick had 16, Justin Washington had 14 before leaving the game late with an apparent ankle injury and Julius Jackson had 13 in his first game in a Hornet uniform. Duncan Fort had seven rebounds in under 10 minutes to lead ESU.
The Hornets shot 53 percent from the floor, including 48 percent from the 3-point line, and outrebounded the Spires 47-29.
With the win, the Hornets are now 2-2 on the season and will take on Bethel at 7:30 pm Saturday. Coverage starts at 7:10 pm on Mix 104.9 FM and KVOE.com.
