One person was taken to Newman Regional Health after an accident involving two vehicles in downtown Emporia Tuesday night.
Emergency crews were called out to the intersection of Ninth and Merchant for a reported injury crash just after 7 p.m. Two vehicles, one westbound on Ninth and the other southbound on Merchant collided in the intersection when the westbound vehicle failed to notice the other vehicle.
The driver of the southbound car had to be extricated from the vehicle as the driver side door was pinned by the westbound car. That individual was taken to Newman Regional Health with currently unknown injuries.
The westbound driver and a passenger both refused transport at the scene. The names of those involved have yet to be released.
Emporia Fire and Police responded to the accident. Traffic was briefly blocked as crews worked to clear the scene, traffic flow has since returned to normal.
