A major winter storm is developing for much of the Central Plains to close out the holiday weekend.
The National Weather Service says this is the most potent winter storm for Kansas in at least four years, but as it currently stands, the KVOE listening area probably won’t get a lot of snow — maybe up to 3 inches, with higher totals the further north you go across the area. However, TV-13 weathercaster Peyton Sanders says the combination of light snow and high winds — as high as 35 to 50 mph — could well cause significant travel problems across several states.
Forecast models aren’t agreeing on totals yet, but they do indicate the highest snowfall is setting up for portions of Iowa and Missouri. After the storm clears, sunshine will likely dominate the forecast and temperatures should be in the upper 30s to mid-40s for much of next week.
We’ll keep you updated on KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media through the weekend.
