The Emporia State womens basketball team held off a 2nd half rally by Arkansas Fort Smith for a 66-60 win Friday night.
The Lady Hornets used an 11-0 run to end the first quarter to take a 20-12 lead into the 2nd 10 minutes of play. In the 2nd quarter they would lead by as many as 14 before taking a 10 point lead into halftime. In the 2nd half Arkansas Fort Smith out scored the Lady Hornets 35-31. They cut the deficit to 4 twice in the 4th quarter. Jessica Wayne provided the turn around plays getting 2 steals and Kali Martin made 2 layups to bump the lead back to 9. Kali Martin scored a career high 18 points to lead Emporia State.
Tyra Jones finished with 15 points and Jessica Wayne had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Arkansas Fort Smith was led by Mariah Green with 13 points. Daijah Brown had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Ellie Lehne scored 10 points. Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn was happy to get the win.
With the win the Emporia State women are now 4-1 for the season. Arkansas Fort Smith is 1 and 5.
Saturday Emporia State will play Northern State at 3:30p in the LaQuinta Inn and Quality Inn Thanksgiving Classic.
In Fridays other game East Central Oklahoma out scored Northern State 58-52.
East Central will play Arkansas Fort Smith at 1:30p Saturday afternoon.
