To say the least, the fifth annual Match Day was another resounding success for the Emporia Community Foundation.
The Community Foundation has seen increasing fundraising totals every year with Match Day, and there was no exception at the formal check presentation Tuesday. Just under $241,000 was raised for 25 local and area community groups, topping last year’s prior record of $210,000.
Director Becky Jeppesen tells KVOE News it was an “incredible” event.
Heading into Tuesday, Match Day had generated over $573,000, thanks to community donations and the annual matching pool provided by the Clint Bowyer 79 Fund, Hopkins Foundation, Reeble Foundation, Trusler Foundation and Jones Testamentary Trust. This puts the current total now at just shy of $815,000.
Fundraising totals were up this year despite Match Day falling on what turned out to be a bad weather day Nov. 12. Much of that had to do with the debut of online giving, and Jeppesen says many people used that online feature to either donate at home or to donate at Flinthills Mall, where the event was held.
The list of participants next year may change. All Match Day spots will be open, so interested organizations will have to apply for selection. For more information, go online to www.emporiacf.org or call the Community Foundation at 342-9304.
