Emporia city commissioners have several topics worth noting when they have their study session Wednesday.
Commissioners will discuss whether to approve a five-year extension for an incentive compliance agreement with Renewable Energy Group, also known as R-E-G. Back in 2007, the city and REG entered into an incentive compliance agreement for a biodiesel plant in southeast Emporia. Construction started the following year and then stopped — and hasn’t resumed since. The current incentive compliance agreement ends New Year’s Eve.
In other business, commissioners are planning to discuss a conditional use permit request affecting the recently-approved Preston Plaza and Lofts at 528 Commercial. Last week, the Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission recommended the special permit so developers could put residential living space on the ground floor of a C-4 Central Business District-zoned space.
Commissioners are also set to learn more about plans for a new SOS safe house. Legislative updates are also on the agenda.
The meeting is at 10 am at White Auditorium City Conference Room 1 AB.
