Traffic was blocked in all directions after a crash just west of Emporia on Tuesday afternoon.
The wreck happened shortly before 1:30 pm at the intersection of US Highway 50 and Road G, also known as Americus Road. Trooper Rick Wingate says a southbound vehicle on Road G went through the intersection and hit an eastbound truck on Highway 50. At least one of the vehicles then ran into a pole attached to the intersection’s overhead 4-way stoplight. The top of the pole came down to the ground, breaking the stoplight and bringing a live wire down on the highway.
Emporia EMS checked over two people at the scene and then cleared them. Names have not been released.
US-50 traffic started returning to normal around 2 pm. It took another half-an-hour for travel to get back to normal on Road G.
