Monthly financials weren’t exactly where the Flint Hills Community Health Center’s Board of Directors wanted them, but the board and Executive Director Renee Hively are still pleased with the overall financial direction of the Health Center.
Hively tells KVOE News financial stability has been a renewed focus for the Health Center since a disappointing fall period last year.
On the positive side, October cash on hand has increased to 44.3 days, up from just over 30 at the start of the year. October’s month-ending net loss was $12,200, about $108,000 unfavorable to budget.
The turnaround plan includes indicators like cash on hand, net assets to expenses, and current and long-term debt-to-equity ratios. It was enacted after the Health Center lost over $290,000 in August 2017 and another $160,000 in October 2017, leading to the departure of prior director Phillip Davis.
In other business, the Health Center recently added a new position. The Health Center recently received a grant so it could add a substance abuse care coordinator, and recruitment is underway for that post.
Meanwhile, one of the Health Center’s big openings will be closing next week. Dr. James Fast was announced as the facility’s new medical director in August.
Hively says Fast’s presence will help the Health Center get closer to its overall financial goals and continue the recent success of its turnaround plan. The Health Center is also recruiting for two dentist positions, which will also both fill open provider posts and help the Health Center’s bottom line.
