Nearly a month after a Lyon County inmate died at the jail, the investigation continues into how he died and why.
Christopher Mejia, 43, was found unresponsive in the jail Oct. 30 and died shortly afterward. Mejia had been arrested earlier that day on suspicion of criminal trespass.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been leading the investigation throughout the process. A preliminary autopsy has been completed, but the KBI is waiting for a final autopsy, additional forensic evidence and other components of the investigation to be completed before it announces its findings. The process could take at least another month before more details are announced.
