After several years of planning and almost a full year of construction, a new emergency department at Newman Regional Health is less than a month from officially opening its doors to the public.
The hospital’s Board of Trustees took a tour of the facility as part of its monthly meeting Wednesday. KVOE News also got a tour, and CEO Bob Wright says a lot of thought went into both the expansion and the layout of the new facility.
The new emergency department will triple the space of the current emergency department. It will also offer double the room numbers with state-of-the-art amenities in each room.
More than that, though, Wright says the layout should help both patients and staff.
Newman ExpressCare will also be part of the new space once it moves from Flinthills Mall.
The ambulance bay has been moved and expanded so four vehicles can be comfortably housed inside as opposed to one now.
The emergency department’s opening will almost coincide with Newman ExpressCare’s reopening. Both of those events will take place in mid- to late December. The observation unit will open possibly by early January.
