A crash Friday morning involved a pickup and utility pole in south Emporia.
Emporia EMS and Emporia Police were initially called to the 400 block of South Cottonwood shortly before 7:45 am for a reported injury crash. After arriving, authorities saw the pickup crashed into the pole on Potwin Street between South Cottonwood and South Sylvan.
Ultimately, no injuries were reported. Potwin was closed for close to an hour after the crash.
Westar Energy was called to assist as a safeguard. No outages were reported. Further crash details are pending.
This is the third crash involving a vehicle and utility pole in or immediately around Emporia in the last two-plus weeks. Just Tuesday, a two-vehicle crash led to the downing of the 4-way stoplight over the intersection of US Highway 50 and Americus Road. Injuries were initially reported but nobody went to the hospital afterward and there was no resulting power outage. On Nov. 15, a vehicle crashed into a power pole near the Emporia Country Club. Again, nobody was hurt, but over 400 Westar customers lost power for several hours after the wreck.
