On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will travel to Oakland to take on the archrival Raiders. One of their key offensive weapons the past season-plus is no longer part of the team.
The Chiefs dismissed running back Kareem Hunt on Friday, shortly after a video surfaced of Hunt allegedly assaulting a woman at a hotel.
A statement from the Chiefs said the team was made aware of an unspecified incident involving Hunt earlier this year.
βAt that time, the National Football League and law enforcement initiated investigations into the issue. As part of our internal discussions with Kareem, several members of our management team spoke directly to him. Kareem was not truthful in those discussions. The video released today confirms that fact.β
Hunt expressed remorse, saying, βI want to apologize for my actions. I deeply regret what I did. I hope to move on from this.β
Just before the Chiefs made their move, the NFL put Hunt on the Commissioner Exempt List, meaning Hunt could not play in games or practice with the team.
A star with the University of Toledo before turning pro, Hunt played in all 11 games for the Chiefs this season, rushing 181 times for 824 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also caught 26 passes for 378 yards and 7 TDs.
