Tributes are rolling in for the late George H.W. Bush, the nation’s 41st President who died Friday at the age of 94.
Among those chiming in was Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, who said, “President Bush was a steadfast defender of freedom and liberty, from his time in the United States Navy to his many years of service in Congress, as vice president, and as our country’s 41st president. Our nation is grateful for his leadership through periods of conflict and uncertainty around the world.”
Bush was a Navy pilot during World War II and was also an oil executive when he went into civil service, with terms as CIA director, United Nations ambassador and Congressman before becoming Ronald Reagan’s vice president from 1980-1988. He then succeeded Reagan for a term before he was defeated by Bill Clinton.
Bush is survived by five children, including former President George W. Bush and one-time Florida governor Jeb Bush. Funeral arrangements are pending.
