Both the Emporia High girls and boys basketball teams opened their seasons with wins over Wichita Independent Tuesday night.
The Lady Spartans used a 18-6 run in the 3rd quarter to break open the game on the way to a 56-28 win. Coach Carolyn Dorsey said the second half was improved.
Taylor Milleson led the offense with 14 points. Mya Chapman added 13 points.
The Emporia High boys used a 27-10 2nd quarter run to take control on the way to a 82-40 win. Coach Beau Welch said they played smarter later in the game.
Charles Snyder led the offense with 15 points, Jace Stewart added 14 and Connor Hoyt finished with 11 points.
Both the girls and boys will play Hesston Thursday in the Hesston tournament.
