The Emporia High School Basketball teams split against Nickerson in Hesston Friday.
The Spartan Girls fell behind early and could never quite catch up as they fell to the Lady Panthers 48-34. The Lady Spartans were led in scoring by Maya Tovar with 12 points. Emporia High was just 26 percent from the field.
With the loss, the Lady Spartans fall to 1-2 on the season.
In the boys game, the Spartans dominated action from the get-go defeating Nickerson 66-39. Emporia High would lead by 15 at the half 31-16. In the third quarter, a 22-12 run would all but seal the game for the Spartan boys. 3 Spartans scored in double figures, Charles Sneider had 15 points, Spencer Stewart added 14 and Kyler McCullough had 11. The Panthers would turn the ball over 30 times in the game.
The Boys now improve to 3-0 on the season.
Both teams will return to action Tuesday when they host Washburn Rural.
