Local and area law enforcement are searching for the people who allegedly stole several cars from an Emporia used car dealer, torched one in Greenwood County and stole items from a Greenwood County business late last week.
Four vehicles were stolen from Lopez Auto, 515 Albert, last week, and one remains at large, according to Police Sgt. Lisa Sage. One truck was recovered Saturday on Road J. Another was recovered Monday.
A Ford Mustang was found Friday near Madison after it had been burned. Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samuels tells KVOE News the car was found outside Schankie Well Service around 8 am Friday. The fire was hot enough to melt the aluminum wheels, but the car was cold to the touch when it was discovered.
Samuels also tells KVOE News some items were stolen from a barn at the property. The exact amount of stolen items has not been determined.
There is currently no word on the number of suspects potentially involved and no descriptive information has been released at this time. Samuels says investigators are not confirming arson with the burned car unless additional information points the case in that direction.
