Walnut School reading specialist Jill Lynch was named as the district’s nominee for Kansas Master Teacher during a ceremony at the school Wednesday.
Lynch says a successful teacher works daily on building relationships with students.
Lynch is celebrating her 30th year in education.
The Master Teacher program is organized by Emporia State University. Established in 1954, it honors teachers who have served the profession “long and well” and who exemplify the best qualities of good teachers. Once the panel is named, it then travels across Kansas to meet with other educators, offering tips and learning different teaching methods at the same time.
Emporia has had 27 Master Teachers since the program was initiated, including five this decade and two the last two years. Prior Master Teachers from Emporia include:
