The overwhelming hustle and bustle of the holidays can often lead to the deterioration of one’s mental wellness.
This was a message shared by Clarice Podrebarac with Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness on a recent addition of KVOE’s Talk of Emporia. With several expectations and busy schedules during this time of year, normal everyday stressors can often become more strenuous on the mind.
Podrebarac says there are several factors which lead to this, one is often the feeling that we must match up to others. She explains social media can be a factor which leads to feelings of inadequacy in some individuals.
She adds many families often see traditions begin to change over the years as family members either pass on or move away. This can often create stress as planning to ensure everyone is together is not as easy as it once was.
Podrebarac says in terms of this issue it is important for individuals to embrace the change and start allowing for new traditions to take shape.
During her time on Talk of Emporia, Podrebarac offered some suggestions that may help reduce stress and increase the mental health of individuals during the holidays.
This includes taking a break from social media, keeping to your everyday routine as much as is possible and not reaching beyond your limits in order to meet expectations set forth by others.
