The 24th ranked Emporia State womens basketball team won their first game at Puerto Rico Monday afternoon. They defeated Puerto Rico Rio Piedras 67-39.
Coach Toby Wynn was pleased with the teams effort.
Emily Miller scored a game high 17 points, Jessica Wayne added 14 points and 11 rebounds and Tyra Jones finished with 10 points. The Lady Hornets finished with a season high 19 steals and scored 22 points off of 25 turnovers.
Rio Piedras was not the team the Lady Hornets had prepared to play, they were scheduled to play Puerto Rico Mayaguez.
The Lady Hornets are now 8-2 for the season. They are scheduled to play Puerto Rico Bayamon Tuesday.
