Northern Heights would collect two hard-fought victories over Chase County on the Area Game of the Week Tuesday.
The Northern Heights Ladycats would require overtime to defeat the Chase County Lady Bulldogs 55-49.
A three-pointer by Destiny Dody in the final moments of the fourth quarter would see Northern Heights tie the game with Chase County 48-48 to force the overtime. In overtime, Northern Heights would hold Chase County to just one point as Caleigh Smart would put up seven individual points to lift her team to the victory.
Northern Heights was led in scoring with by junior Khylee Massey with 15 points and Smart with 12 points.
Head coach Lanny Massey says he was proud of how his team bounced back from a slow start.
Chase County was led in scoring by senior Maya Eidman with 13 points.
With the win, Northern Heights now improves to 5-2 on the season as Chase County falls to 4-2.
On the boys half of the doubleheader, Northern Heights would survive a back and forth affair to come out on top over the Bulldogs 52-48.
Northern Heights shot over 40 percent throughout the game, while Chase County managed 34 percent. Northern Heights would carry a three-point lead into the fourth quarter where the Wildcats would outscore Chase County 9-8 to seal the win.
Northern Heights was led in scoring junior Tee Preisner with 15 points, 11 of which coming in the first quarter.
Wildcats head coach Jacob Lang says he was pleased with the way his team closed out the game.
Senior Hunter Groh led Chase County in scoring with 14 points.
With the win, the Wildcats now improve to 4-3 on the season as Chase County falls to 3-3.
