A car was likely destroyed after a vehicle fire between Emporia and Neosho Rapids on Tuesday evening.
Emporia and Hartford-Neosho Rapids fire crews were dispatched to the 1400 block of Road S just before 7:45 pm. Crews were able to get the fire put out quickly.
Emporia Fire says the currently unnamed driver took the car into a cornfield and got stuck. The current thought is the engine overheated, with exhaust catching nearby corn stubble and the car on fire.
No injuries were reported. The car will likely be considered a total loss.

Another vehicle fire was reported in Lyon County on Tuesday.

This was the third vehicle fire in Lyon County over the past four days. A car caught fire at 1106 Congress on Saturday night, and the cause of that has not been released. Lyon County deputies are investigating Saturday afternoon’s car fire in the 1700 block of Road 60 as a likely arson.
Monday’s report of a combine fire near Allen turned out to be a combination of bean dust and a smoking belt.
