It was a tough night for the Emporia High girls and boys basketball teams at Topeka High Thursday night. Topeka High won the girls game 61-41 and won the boys game 61-53.
In the girls game Topeka High used a 15-0 run in the 2nd quarter on the way to a 30 point lead at halftime. In the second half the Lady Spartans did out score Topeka High 30-20 but it was not enough for Coach Carolyn Dorseys Lady Spartans.
Gracie Gilpin was the leading scorer for Emporia High with 12 points. The Lady Spartans go into the Christmas Break with a 2-5 record.
In the boys game the Spartans trailed by 15 in the first half. They would cut the deficit to 5 in the 2nd half but could get no closer. Emporia High Coach Beau Welch said the effort was good but did not make enough shots.
