Students and faculty were evacuated after a reported structure fire on the campus of Emporia State University Friday evening.
Emporia Fire Crews responded to a call for a reported structure fire inside the learning commons of William Allen White Library on the ESU Campus just before 5 pm. There were no flames inside the building or on the premises, however smoke was filling the building.
According to Battalion Chief Rich Gould, the smoke originated from a wall furnace inside the commons, however, the cause of which has yet to be determined.
Firefighters evacuated the smoke and the investigation into the cause is ongoing. No injuries were reported.
