Hetlinger Developmental Services is wrapping up its first major fundraising campaign.
Executive Director Trudy Hutchinson discussed the “Everyday Heroes” campaign during KVOE’s Talk of Emporia on Monday. The goal, Hutchinson says, is to raise $5,000 by early January to add music therapy and other options. If it can raise $5,000 in the next couple weeks, more money is coming.
Cash and checks are suggested. If Hetlinger can reach goal, an anonymous donor has promised a $5,000 matching grant.
As this fundraising effort comes to a close, Hetlinger is putting more of an emphasis on donations as a whole. Alex Mosakowski of Scouting USA is taking Hetlinger’s new director of development position starting next week. Hutchinson says state funding is traditionally a concern, although lawmakers have allocated increases in reimbursement rates the last two years.
Hetlinger offers services to the developmentally disabled like employment, employment coaching, an onsite workshop, community days, outings and arts and crafts activities. About 75 people currently take advantage of those services, and the number is typically between 70 and 85.
