A new initiative through the end of this year will be helping to lower the number of impaired drivers on the roadway.
Specifically, drunk drivers as the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is taking part in the Operation Taking Down DUI campaign. The initiative is a grant campaign through the Kansas Department of Transportation which provides overtime reimbursement for law enforcement as they work to track down drivers who may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope, a guest on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Wednesday explains the full process of what will happen if you are picked up for DUI.
Along with the court fees and fines, drivers who are convicted of DUI can also lose their license for up to a year, suffer a loss of employment and be required to attend extensive treatment programs.
The Operation Taking Down DUI Campaign begins Wednesday and will run through January 1st.
