Is your house bursting at the seams with boxes and wrapping paper now that Christmas is over? Emporia’s Solid Waste Department is here to help.
Between now and New Year’s Eve, sanitation crews will pick up your extra holiday trash and recyclables, so long as the trash is bagged and left by Polycarts and the recycling isn’t “too big.” Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn says all the holiday trash makes for an extremely busy time for his crews.
One question that normally comes up this time of year is what to do with wrapping paper.
For recycling, Senn says boxes can be left by Polycarts in most cases — although he says residents can cut up their boxes to make sure they can be hauled off. If the boxes are too big, refrigerator-size or larger, the city will send an extra truck to take those away.
Meanwhile, if you have a live Christmas tree, you can drop that off at the Lyon County Fairgrounds north entrance, Dillon’s or Guion’s Showcase for free disposal through Jan. 2. The city does not do curbside Christmas tree pickup.
