The US Highway 400 indoor rest area facilities near Beaumont have reopened to the public a lot faster than expected.
The indoor facilities closed Thursday due to settling of ground near a new water tower and a water line break. At the time, the Kansas Department of Transportation expected it would be Wednesday at the earliest before needed repairs could take place. Instead, repairs took place Friday.
KDOT has not confirmed the reason behind the change in schedule.
7 am Friday: KDOT closes US 400 rest area near Beaumont
US Highway 400 travelers can stop at the Beaumont rest area, but they can’t use any of the indoor facilities for the next few days.
For the second time this year, the Kansas Department of Transportation has closed the rest area’s indoor facilities. KDOT says the ground has settled around a new water tower and a water line recently broke. Repair work has to wait until next week at the earliest so the ground can dry out.
In late February, the rest area was also closed. At that time, a nearby water tower ran empty. The rest area is served by a rural water district, and KDOT says it has occasional issues with water service.
