CenturyLink says it has partially restored an outage that impacted customers across America, including some in the KVOE listening area.
The company began having Internet disruptions around noon Thursday. CenturyLink says engineers and technicians identified a faulty network element late Thursday night, with more technical issues discovered before sunrise Friday. It took until Friday afternoon before voice and 911 service was restored. The company has not updated its Internet situation.
CenturyLink simply says it had to contend with “a network event” that affected all its consumer services, including voice and 911.
The Federal Communications Commission has announced an investigation into both the outage and its impact, especially on 911 service.
In Kansas, CenturyLink provides service to larger metropolitan areas in the eastern half of the state, including Lawrence, Olathe and Topeka. It also provides service in Coffey County.

As CenturyLink continues work to restore a nationwide Internet outage, including some customers in the KVOE listening area, the Federal Communications Commission has announced an investigation into both the outage and its impact.

FCC Chair Ajit Pai says the agency’s investigation will focus on the impact on 911 service, both through CenturyLink and other providers across the country.
