Federal workers in nine departments and dozens of agencies affected by the current partial government shutdown are already seeing the impact. Another financial issue may face them once the government begins fully operating again.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order freezing pay for federal workers next year. This follows a proposal he announced earlier in the year. It also ends any chance federal workers will see an across-the-board 2.1 percent pay raise that was supposed to start next month, although it does not affect a 2.6-percent pay raise for US troops next year.
About 380,000 federal employees have been furloughed, while another 420,000 are working without pay. They will not receive their Jan. 11 paycheck if the shutdown continues.
