As residents are set to ring in the New Year, the Emporia Police Department is urging them to plan ahead after the festivities conclude.
Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says planning ahead before heading out to celebrate is essential to ensure 2018 ends and 2019 begins on the right note. This is especially important when it comes to transportation.
Sage adds pre-planning also applies to weather conditions. With temperatures expected to drop between the mid to low teens, residents are advised to bundle up especially if they plan to be walking home from New Year’s parties.
There will be extra officers on duty Monday evening watching for impaired or drunk drivers. Sage says if you do not have a designated driver it is best for anyone planning to be drinking to utilize a cab or ride share as it is much cheaper than paying for a DUI.
