Typically, winter has a lot of house fires, and that may well develop as the season continues. However, this early winter period has seen more than its fair share of vehicle fires as opposed to house fires.
Emporia Fire dealt with four vehicle fires the last two weeks of December, including a potential arson incident near Olpe. If you are in a vehicle that catches fire, Battalion Chief Ryan Conley tells KVOE News has a few common-sense tips.
Conley says drivers and passengers need to realize vehicle fires often spread quickly once they develop.
Conley’s comments came actually a few days before two people were found dead after a vehicle fire near McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita late Sunday. The investigation continues into that incident.
If you see smoke, anticipate a fire has started or is beginning and call 9-1-1.
