Several area fire departments have been awarded grant funding through the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Recruitment and Safety Grant Awards program offers no-match grants to volunteer or part-time fire departments for personal protection equipment, including so-called bunker or wildland gear, self-contained breathing masks and washing machines.
*Eureka Volunteer Fire Department: $9,506
*Greenwood County Rural Fire District No. 1: $5,508
*Olpe Fire District No. 1: $5,978.04
*Osage County Fire District No. 6: $6,128.30
*Wabaunsee County Fire District No. 7: $7,497
The Fire Marshal’s Office says 70 volunteer and part-time fire departments benefited from the program last year, up from 36 in 2017. The office granted $400,000 last year, double the 2017 amount.
