The investigation continues into a shooting incident in Emporia last month.
Emporia Police has now identified the shooting victim as 39-year-old Anthony Evans of Emporia. Evans was found Dec. 16, sitting on the curb in the 800 block of Sylvan with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment afterward and there has been no update on his condition since the shooting.
Evans had been arrested in late October on suspicion of criminal discharge of a firearm in the 900 block of Mechanic. No connection between the two incidents has been announced.
Speaking of the investigation, few details have been released. Two people considered as persons of interest in the shooting, 29-year-old Chelsea Brooks of Topeka and 37-year-old Jon Buchanan of Emporia, were arrested Dec. 18 after separate but related chases originating in the 600 block of Commercial. Both face charges associated with the chases, but neither have been charged in connection with the shooting.
