Overbrook residents are beginning a unique method of goose control Saturday.
The town is having the first of four sanctioned hunts to reduce the goose population at Overbrook City Lake and Overbrook Kids’ Lake. Goose numbers have been a concern in the town for several years, in part because the birds have contributed to episodic blue-green algae issues.
Eight approved hunters will participate. Both lakes and the walking paths around them will be closed from 5 am to 6 pm Saturday, with the hunts from dawn to dusk. Alcohol will be forbidden and Overbrook Police will be on hand for security.
Additional hunts are set for Jan. 19, Feb. 2 and Feb. 16.
