One individual was hospitalized after an injury accident on Kansas Highway 99 Saturday evening.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies and Emporia/Lyon County EMS responded to a reported injury accident shortly before 5 pm in the 1200 block of South K99 Saturday evening. According to the KTA crash log, 27-year-old Robert A. Mundell of Emporia was traveling northbound on a 2017 Harley Davidson Softail motorcycle and attempted to pass a 2010 Toyota Highlander driven by 30-year-old Callie Duncan also of Emporia.
In the process, Mundell struck Duncan’s vehicle and lost control of the motorcycle and entered the west ditch where the motorcycle came to a rest on its side.
Mundell was transported by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with what were described as suspected serious injuries. Roughly 45 minutes after arriving at Newman, Mundell was then airlifted to a currently unnamed hospital.
Mundell’s condition is currently unknown, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Duncan was unharmed.
Traffic was down to one lane in both directions as Sheriff’s Deputies, EMS crews and the Kansas Highway Patrol worked to clear the scene.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies and Emporia/Lyon County EMS were called out to the scene of a reported injury accident in the 1200 block of South K99 just after 5 pm Saturday evening. Details are still pending however, the accident involved a motorcycle and a vehicle.
One individual was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with currently undisclosed injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
Traffic in the area is down to one lane as crews work to clear the scene. Motorists traveling in the vicinity should be prepared to stop.
