The Emporia State womens basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 96-88 double overtime loss to Washburn Saturday night.
The Lady Hornets used a 14-3 run to take a 22-16 lead going to the 2nd quarter. In the 2nd quarter Emporia State would led by as many as 14 before taking a 10 point lead into the locker room. In the 3rd quarter Washburn out scored the Lady Hornets 27-13 to take a 59-55 lead into the 4th quarter. Emporia State tied the game at 76 to send the game into overtime. Both teams scored 9 points in the first overtime. In the 2nd overtime Washburn out scored the Lady Hornets 11-3. Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said they just came up short.
Tyra Jones led Emporia State with 24 before fouling out before the end of regulation. Jessica Wayne added 17 points before she fouled out. Emily Miller finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Addie Lackey scored 10 points. Washburn was led by Hunter Bently with 29 points. Taylor Blue finished with 27 points. The Emporia State women are now 10-3 for the season and 1-2 in the MIAA.
